02-12 Joel Selvin, writer for music section of the San Francisco Chronicle for over 30 years has a new book: Hollywood Eden. He talks with us about the So Cal Music scene in the 50s and 60s.

This episode is with Joel Selvin. Joel was one of the writers for the Pop Music section of the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper for over 30 years. His life is and was music. He has written a new book titled: Hollywood Eden – Electric Guitars, Fast Cars, and the Myth of the California Paradise. Its all about the Sothern California music world in the late 50s to early 60s and features the stories and connections with Jan & Dean, Nancy Sinatra, The Beach Boys, The Mamas and the Papas, Phil Spector, Lou Adler and many more that were all just emerging at this time. This episode is with studio and touring bassist, Leland Sklar! Leland has worked with over 2,600 bands and played on over 30,000 songs. In 2004, Phil Collins hired him for the farewell tour. Lee brought his camera and that is where it started. He started taking picture of birds, and we don’t mean the ones from the Audubon Society! Now 16 years later and with over 12,000 photos from everyone he has run into, he has a new book titled “Everyone Loves Me”. The book will make you smile as will this episode.

Lee talks not only about making the book, but touring with Phil Collins, Toto, and his YouTube Channel that he has been posting everyday since March 2020.

This episode we talk with 5 of the greatest studio and touring musicians: Waddy Watchel, Leeland Sklar, Russ Kunkel, Danny Kortchmar & Steve Postel – all of them form the Immediate Family! These guys have been working together since the 70s and just a few years ago they created the band The Immediate Family. The band just released a new EP titled:  Slippin’ and Slidin’ (new album coming in 2021) which has two new songs plus 3 cover tunes which different band members originally contributed to.
